Artist Statement:
Imagine a world without color; just black, white and gray. Imagine the world with just one color; red, blue, orange, yellow. What if there wasn't value? In this artwork, we printed black and white designs on gray paper. My first thought was, "Cool, it's ink." My second thought was, "Urgh, it's like a newspaper article." When we started adding color, I wanted my art to be stunning in every color, to brighten up a newspaper to an illusion. So here it is, my artwork evolving like the movie, The Wizard of Oz.

When I saw the chairs, I thought of them as lifeless and that they had no character. So I went against the rules to create a new chair. I used an antique look to give the sense of its old grandeur.

The world without art would be a barren, lifeless world. Everything on this earth has some connection to art, whether it's color, hue, shapes, balance, value, form... Some of these Principals were used to create this artwork (balance, color, shapes). It was very fun and exiting to be printing, because this was a very new topic, and only 2 test printing projects had been performed before this project, so confidence was not all present in the production of "Prize Dog", nevertheless, I take pride in this artwork because it portrays my creativity and style.

Owl Print

My favorite part about this project was carving the rubber but if I could do anything different, I would have done the project slower so I could enjoy it more. To make this artwork, I had to carve a picture out of rubber and then use it like a stamp. I really enjoyed this project and can't wait to do it next year!

My favorite thing about this project is that we did it in pastel. I think pastel is the easiest medium to work with because you can capture value and bright colors. The chair is the perfect subject to do with the pastel because I was able to work with the shadows and highlights.

Artist Statement:
Making prints bin art class was fun and introduced me to different styles of art. My favorite part would be using a carving tool, because I liked how you could add texture or completely carve something out using one tool. I learned how to sign a print, as well as the importance of registrations. If I could recreate this artwork I would make sure my registrations line up. I enjoyed this particular project, because we basically had all freedom to choose what we wanted to carve. Art helps me explore my creativity and imagination. Without art the world would be colorless, because art introduces creativity and abstract ideas into the world, which also encourages imagination.

When making this artwork, I learned that art can be seen by everyone. When you open your eyes and look at my artwork, you can see the colors and value of it. But when you close your eyes and feel my artwork such as a visually impaired person, it is a different experience completely. You can actually feel the different textures and shapes on my artwork. What I enjoy most is that not only can my artwork be viewed by people who have the gift of sight, but it can also be viewed by people who cannot see.

The world without art would be plain, color would not exist and texture would vanish. Would is not a new idea in the realm of art. People have been experimenting with possibilities for as long as anyone can remember. Wood has been an inspiration in my artwork like it has for so many others. For inspiration, I played with words and arranged them to create 3 poems that I would later use for artwork. Through this piece I spoke the poem to the audience through paintings that communicate the words in a unique way.

Artist Statement:
Ever since I was little I have drawn and built these amazing worlds. In my mind, I would have little scraps of paper filled with drawings but I would never have thought that I could draw something like this. I learned that drawing and perfecting are two different things and that a vanishing point and horizon line can go a long way.

Artist Statement:
I love this project because we got to pick our topic. My project was to make a collage. I used pre-painted paper to create the background, middleground and foreground. If I could make this artwork again, I would do individual scales on the dragon. My favorite thing in the artwork is the fire's contrast and the way it progresses into the dragon.
